Mermaid Run

We needed an excuse for Alyssa to come visit so about a month ago we signed up for a half marathon here in San Diego. Our training consisted of a few long Saturday runs and a few runs during the week to prepare. Although we may not have had enough mileage on our legs to do our VERY best, we definitely met our goal of finishing under 2 hours and just under 9 minute miles. This was our first race (besides turkey trots) together and hopefully not our last!

Mom and Dad came to cheer us on and help Kurt with the babies. We had such a great weekend! Although I am happy the race is over I wish everyone didn't have to leave already! Here are a few highlights from the weekend: Phillipi's, shopping, matching shirts for the race, Lexi and Jules playing together in the crib, Jules playing peekaboo with Lexi, lounging around the beach house, the Race, taking silly sister photos after the race, Robertos tacos, Seaport Village, laughing with my sis, Grandma and Grandpa spending quality time with grand babies, Kurt catering to my every need because of my exhaustion after the race, Las Olas, going to church with my fam, people thinking Alyssa was me at church, Valentine exchanges, getting roses from Kurt, seeing the Townsends, eating lunch at the park by the beach, Alyssa forgetting her iPod and Dad coming to the rescue, Dad finding us at mile 9 to brighten our spirits, running with Alyssa, beautiful weather. Looking forward to having the whole Heap Clan together (except for Brad) in three weeks for Spring Break!

Some little cutie loved Santa this year. On our way to the mall we almost turned around several times because number one it was raining; number two it was late; and number three Jules was already asleep! We thought 'what the heck' she is all dressed up and there is only one week til Christmas. . . 'let's take our chances'. So we carried her all around the outdoor mall in Mission Valley looking for Santa Claus. As soon as we found him she woke up, sat on his lap, gave us a big smile, blew him kisses and said "bye bye". Twenty dollars later we have this picture to prove that we took her to see Santa this year.

I am envious of those with photography skills. These are my two new favorite pictures of our little Jules. Thank you Tiffany (elizajphotography) for capturing our little girl so perfectly!

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving beginning with a surprise. Julianne and I surprised my parents on Monday night along with Uncle Greg and Aunt Jessie. The confused looks on their faces were priceless. We enjoyed spending a few days with cousins shopping, eating and having lots of fun before turkey day. Kurt joined us Wednesday night and we were so happy to see him! Thanksgiving Alyssa and I ran the 1st annual Gilbert 10k Turkey Trot. I am ecstatic to say that we were the first finishers for the 10k!!!! We ran together the entire time and even had a sprinting competition at the end. (I was begging her to stay right by me and not leave me in the dust). They announced us as the winners and our grand prize is free admission to next year's run. Just so you know, the race doesn't cost a thing and there were only about 5 other 10k runners:)

Thanksgiving was delish over at Grandma and Grandpa Heap's home. We had a full house with lots of cousins we don't get to see very often. The hi-light for me was definitely Aunt Denise's raspberry cheesecake! There was no break between lunch and dessert because everyone was too nervous they wouldn't get a slice:)

Friday I was able to meet up with several high school friends for breakfast! I feel so blessed and lucky to have so many close friends that have known me since elementary school. There is nothing like meeting up with old friends. Kurt had his high school reunion Friday night so we sped back to California just in time! We met up with Phliip and Brittney and Clayton and Diana and had a great time visiting with and meeting all of Kurt's old high school flames. haha I'm kidding, I did get to meet some great people and it wasn't too awkward. Tacos were calling our names by the end of the night (10:00 - we must be getting old) and we found the tastiest taco truck in Pasadena. I begged Kurt to go back there on Saturday and to my disappointment they were not there! Saturday we hit up the La Canada farmers market, went to the park, watched football, took naps and felt completely rejuvenated. We headed back down to San Diego, stopping in Huntington for some shopping, and were happy to be together with our little family.

This was just the break we needed to enjoy time with family, friends and lots of time with Julianne.

We enjoyed a lovely weekend showing John and Heather around San Diego. Our adventures consisted of Phil's BBQ, strolling the beach in Coronado, Little Italy in downtown, game night, movie night, car dancing, the temple, hot chocolate run, lots of fun time with Jules, design street in Solana, and a little rain. There is so much to do here I am sure we haven't even scratched the surface. I hope this post motivates more friends and family to make there way out the sunny state of California in the winter months.

We enjoyed an awesome Halloween night with old and new friends on Coronado island. Julianne and her cute friend Sophie went trick or treating for the first time. Sophie seemed to figure it out but Jules was mainly excited to see all the dogs that greeted us at the doors. It was such a fun night!

We threw Conor a little Stache Bash for his 25th Birthday. During college Conor and his friends were known to grow mustaches and throw "mustache" parties every year. We didn't want Conor to be forgotten with all wedding festivities so we had everyone over for a surprise party. It was fun to have the whole family together and crammed into our little apartment in San Diego.

Julianne and I have been spending our days at the zoo lately. We met some new friends (well, new for Julianne) last week and had so much fun exploring and showing our little girls all of the animals. Their favorites were the elephants, panda bears, and of course the discovery center with the playground to run around on.

This week Conor, Nik, Rachelle and her family, and Victoria came down from Los Angeles to go with us to the zoo. Julianne had so much fun with her cousins and the adults had a good time too. Our first quest was to find the “silver-back gorillas” for little Elijah. He would not stop talking and acting like a gorilla until we saw them. When we were at the chimpanzee exhibit little E made friends with one of the baby chimps. They were playing tag and the chimp kept chasing him against the glass. The chimp would get frustrated and hit the glass. Elijah drew a crowd and Conor was videotaping. It was definitely a hi-light from the day. We finished off the day on one of the double-decker buses and enjoyed seeing the rest of the animals on the second level relaxing.

It was such a treat to have everyone come down and spend the day together. We even waited for Kurt to finish work and all had dinner together- at BJ’s of course. The Turley’s won’t pass up pizza, pizookies and a baseball game.

This weekend is Nik and Rachel’s wedding in San Diego! We are excited to spend more time with the whole family and celebrate!

AZ Birthday & LB Aquarium

We met up with Kurt's parents, sister, and Julianne's cousins in Long Beach to check out the aquarium. Although it was a hot day we had a blast seeing sharks, seals, jellyfish, and birds.

While in Arizona we were able to celebrate Julianne's birthday with my parents and two sets of great grandparents. She is a lucky girl to have three sets of greats in her life. She commanded everyone's attention playing with all the balloons and diving into the banana cake and vanilla ice cream. The Westergards, Petersons and Bradshaws also came for the fun! We sure miss them and want them to come visit us here in San Diego!

We had several celebrations for our sweet Julianne for her 1st birthday! I have taught her young to stretch it out and celebrate the whole month. These pictures are on her actual birthday in La Jolla wearing the cute outfit her New Mexican Aunt Alyssa sent her. Julianne kept running towards the ocean wanting to go swim! She is like her daddy and always wants to be in the water. She loves the sand in her toes and the waves crashing on her. I couldn't have asked for a happier, sweeter, more lovable daughter that I get to have as my little shadow. I love spending my days with her by my side and I love watching her develop and learn and grow. I just wish it went by a little slower:(

San Diego is not a bad place to live in August! We are very grateful to be here in a new city exploring all that it has to offer! The weather is unbelievable, the beaches are close and we are now annual pass holders at Sea World! We have been trying to pack in everything we can since our stay here will only be a few short months!

It's official- Our little family is moving to California! We have a busy few weeks ahead of us moving all of our belongings and trying to find a place to live before Kurt starts his new job. Wish us luck- and come visit!

I keep asking myself why I keep coming home to this Arizona heat! We have been having way too much fun vacationing and enjoying our summer with all of our family. Here is my usual bullet-point account of what we have been up to.
-Quick (20 hour) drive up to Montana to see some of Jules favorite cousins
-Stopped in Provo to visit the newlyweds
-Slept in Draper at the Aunt and Uncle's (who made us delish breakfast at 6:30 am before we left)
-Drove from SLC to Flathead Lake, Montana - most beaufiful drive!
-Enjoyed hanging out with family and some local bears
- Newport Beach with the Heap Family
-Disneyland- Jules first experience!!
-The pool, beach, fire-pit, s'mores, tk burgers, tutti frutti, balboa frozen chocolate bananas, bike ride/rollerblading from Newport to Huntington pier, despicable me, beachcombers, alligators in the sand, mexican train, hanging out with cutest newest niece Lexi Mae
-Friday night bbq with Kalei and her girls, Conor, Doug and Victoria

Julianne LOVES Oliver (Kurt's parent's dog) and has learned how to bark at him. Every morning she looks in the kitchen for him and starts barking--it is too cute!

Julianne has also loved getting to know Uncle Conor! I came back from running one morning and she didn't even notice I was in the room for half an hour.

Little Julianne is quite photogenic and has learned to smile on queue whenever the camera is pointed in her direction.

We are heading back to AZ tomorrow after two wonderful weeks in California with Kurt's family. You can't beat beautiful California weather and spending time with family.

It would be crazy for me not to document this past month at least in bullet points. It has been a busy month full of milestones, big events and fun parties. Here it goes:

- Alyssa had a beautiful new baby - Lexi Mae Copple
-Brad had his farewell on Mother's Day
-I celebrated my first Mother's Day
-Greg got married on May 10th to beautiful Jessie Zaharis
-Alyssa turned 29 on May 12th
-We celebrated our 4th anniversary on May 11th (we dined at Bandera - delish!)
-Kurt graduated with his MRED degree (master of real estate development) from ASU on May 13th
- Dad's birthday was on May 14th
-Brad left on his mission on May 18th (to Bangkok, Thailand)
-Kurt is interviewing for jobs (life after school has begun)
-We are spending some time in California so Jules can get to know her cousins Elijah and Isabella
-my two sister-in-laws are due with babies in the next two weeks
-Kurt's brother Conor graduated from UPENN

Easter Part 1

My computer time has been minimal with Kurt in the last month of his master's program. I still have to document Julianne's first Easter along with many other events that have been happening. With Kurt graduating, two new babies, a wedding and a missionary leaving our family has been quite busy.

Once again. . . pictures of Jules:) And although these are low quality iphone pics- I still love them. I will try and learn how to upload pictures onto my computer one of these days so Kurt doesn't always have to do it for me.

8 month update
Julianne is 8 months old and 23 lbs! My back is starting to break so hopefully she will walk soon. She pulls herself up on everything and crawls around everywhere. She has four teeth (bottom two and top two fangs). My lil brother Greg says that she "steals the show" wherever she goes and I would have to agree. She commands attention with her chatty and happy personality and always seems to give everyone a smile. She loves kids and yells and screams whenever her cousins are around. When she sees her new little cousin Lexi she gets so excited she screams and reaches for her. You can sure tell that she remembers being friends with her up in heaven just a few months ago:) She is the love of our lives and is convincing Kurt everyday that he would be fine if we had 5 girls.

Sun-Bathing Beauty

I just have to document Jules in her first little swimming suit out at her first little pool day. This girl loves the water! I am really trying to learn how to load up on sun screen because I have always been bad at that. But I do not want these chubby little legs to get burned. It seems to be extra hot extra early this March. Although I love a little sunshine it seems harder to deal with the heat when you have a sweet little baby that sweats like crazy (thanks to both the Heap and Turley genes). Julianne is 7 months old, over 20 lbs, and 27 1/2 inches long. She is crawling all over the place and as smiley as can be. I don't know what I did to deserve such a sweet little low-maintenace baby but she sure is the light of my life. She is extremely talkative, teething on everything in sight, a mama's girl, (she loves her daddy too but always reaches for me:) giggly, loves her baby food especially spinach, rutabaga, and apples, and cute as can be.

Jules at 4 1/2 months old! i could not resist putting in a little gel curl. I think it's adorable.

So I am going to take my time to document the last few months for journaling purposes. However, here are a few pictures from our little family hike in Tempe/Scottsdale today. We have been dying to go on a hike now that the weather is perfect and our little Julianne is old enough to enjoy the scenery. She loves being in the bjorn as long as she has her fingers or fists to suck on.

I also must document that yesterday Jules rolled over for the first time! Unfortunately I was loading the washing machine and came back to find out. I begged her to do it again but to no avail. Hopefully we catch her in the act next time so we can document this accomplishment on camera!

I cannot believe she is almost five months old! At her four month appointment she was 26 inches (95th percentile) 16 1/2 lbs (93rd percentile). She is quite the chub and we love each and every one of her many many rolls.

Life with Julianne

I'll be honest and say that most of our time is spent at home with our sweet little girl. However, we have been on a few fun adventures! Kurt got tickets to the Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks game in September and really wanted Julianne to experience her first baseball game! We went an hour late and she slept the entire game.

Last week Kurt went out of town on a school field trip to Washington D.C. so I tagged along with my mom in Park City. Julianne was able to meet two of her favorite uncles and some of my closest friends. Unfortunately I didn't take that many pictures but here are a few. Julianne was amazing on her first flight and her first long 13-hour drive home.

I really don't know what to say except I am extremely anxious, excited, nervous, and overwhelmed about what will happen in the next few weeks!

This whole pregnancy thing is pretty amazing and I am trying to enjoy every little thing about it.

Some of my favorite things about being pregnant:
Funny things people say - "you look miserable" and in the same shopping trip "pregnancy is so good to you, you are just glowing", "you must be having a girl cause your face looks fuller" oh gee thanks:) and walking down the streets of New York a random homeless-looking guy said "you are having a girl!" Kurt said, "Ya we are how did you know?" the man just pointed up to the sky. I thought it was crazy that he knew just from looking at me until Kurt said, "he had a 50/50 chance Car".

Fall and Football

Fall is almost here! Although it is still 100 degrees out we have had a few nice storms and windy nights that have helped us survive the end of summer. Football season has officially begun and we are excited to watch high school, college, and NFL this year. (Don't ask me why I just said that because every night I am begging Kurt to change the channel to FoodNetwork). However, I love watching Brad and Todd's teams. Go Toros and Ravens!!

The above picture was at Brad's game last Friday night taken from Kurt's phone. Although the game was brutal, the weather was fun, the company was great, and the setting was absolutely beautiful.

Newport 09

Our Newport Beach trip for the Fourth of July was just not long enough this year. We spent most of the week lounging on the beach, running along the PCH, watching fireworks, having a family BBQ throwdown, shooting family photos, admiring the crazies and party animals in the streets, eating lots of Tootie Fruiti, watching SYTYCD with all the girls, witnessing a few arrests, playing scum and having a blast with all the fam. Can't wait til next year!

My birthday week is coming to an end and I am sure Kurt is very grateful to that. I feel very blessed to have the wonderful friends and family that made it a fun 24th birthday! I had to work on my birthday but yesterday my mom and I went to get our hair done and a little shopping and then to dinner with the fam ( well some of the fam, we were missing the Copples and Greg and Brad:( )

Kurt and I just returned from an amazing vacation that we felt very fortunate to go on. We celebrated many wonderful events that have recently occurred in our lives and spent 8 days just the two of us.

Kurt and I had the opportunity to spend the weekend (a couple weeks ago) in Baltimore!!! We were so glad we went cause we had such a great time. We spent the weekend with family and enjoyed spending time with our niece and nephews. We were able to go to the Ravens game and Conor (Kurt's little bro) met us from Philly to come see the game too. It was a last minute venture but worth every minute!

So after California we had a week to get settled and then off to Montana we went for the vacation of a lifetime. As we flew out of the small airport in Queen Creek, Arizona our expectations were high of what we were going to be experiencing over the next week. We had heard all about the "Flathead", wake surfing (which we both had never tried) and how this would be the best vacation of our lives. Well. . . . . . . . . . . they were right. Rocky and Krystal definitely showed us a good time and many fond memories were made at Flathead Lake. Krystal summed up the trip pretty well in her blog post and I would just have to say ditto:) We had such an awesome time, surfing, canoeing, hot tubbing, boating, playing dominoes, BOGGLE! (Krystal hurry back to Arizona so we can play again!), making pizzas, picking rocks, papa Don's, video arcades, huckleberry ice cream (Liz, is it okay if we have some?) ping pong, DDR, reading by the lakeside, biking in the rain, picking cherries, Glacier National Park, the friendly mountain goat, trying to make cool noises that sounded like a band in the car but it didn't really work, being roommates with Liz again(well actually just sharing a bathroom with her again:), spending a whole week with my babe, living in a swimsuit, making new friends, eating great breakfasts, playing with Tate, SUNSETS, three sixes, 3:10 to Yuma, frisbee golf, golfing, jet skiing, tubing (Kurt and Rocky, we will get you back), almost sinking the boat, the tragic occurrence with Kent, Ben and the deer and the list could probably go on and on. We had the most amazing time and just want to say "thank you" to Rocky and Krystal (and the Tanner Family) for making it all happen. Here is a much needed update of the lives of Kurt and Carli. Now that we are back and settled in Arizona I can finally sit down and re-cap the month of August and what's been going on in September. The last week of our adventure in California ended with a bang. My mom came out to California for her birthday and spent a couple days with Alyssa and Kurt and I. We went shopping down at the fabric district, had a wonderful baby shower for Alyssa, ate delicious food, laughed til we cried, and last but definitely not least saw "WICKED"!!!! The show was amazing and definitely is on my list to see again. (Kurt is still undecided whether or not he will come next time, however, he did enjoy it:)) Here are a few pictures of our last weekend in California.

Los Angeles Temple & The Apple Pan

Kurt's family has a tradition of going to the Apple Pan after attending the LA Temple. After going there last night I have decided that is one tradition I would like to carry on. The temple session was amazing and it was great to go through another one of the beautiful temples we are blessed to live near.

Well four months have gone by and I am just now updating the blog. So much has happened so I will just post a few pics of what we have been up to.

My little brother Greg left on his mission this week! It was a sad farewell for me but I am so excited to write letters and hear about his experiences. I will post pics when I get them from my Mom.

Also, We leave in a week for California!! Kurt is doing an internship with an architecture firm in LA and I get to go with him. We will be there for about 6 weeks so if you are in the LA area give me a call!!! Since I won't be working I will try my best to keep up with this blog.

I turned 23! Well almost a month ago. We love birthdays and of course I dragged mine out for about 2 weeks! It was awesome. . .

May 11, 2008 - Happy 1 Year Anniversary!! Kurt proposed at Gainey Ranch and we went to Bandera's after the proposal so we decided to relive that night for our one year. Life has been so wonderful and I couldn't ask for a better husband. I love you babe!

Check out the creepy gondolier- he definitely interrupted the romantic atmosphere with his obnoxiously loud singing and his stench.

My blog has been neglected due to moving, the holidays, a new job, trying to find a place to live, etc. etc. Life has been so full the past few months I just feel the need to post a few pictures and let everyone know what we have been up to! We spent Christmas in Arizona with my family and a day later headed to California to spend the week with the Turleys. We love being with both of our families and we feel so blessed to have such great friendships and support.

Until we move to Arizona!! We have been extremely busy but have managed to have some fun between our work schedules and packing. Oh wait. . . . . . we haven't started packing yet. AHHH!

I don't have much time to write but here are a few pictures of the weather, the Jazz game, and Katie PUGMIRE's wedding.

We are so excited to move but as time is flying we are realizing how much we are going to miss this place. Maybe not all of it , but definitely our many good friends, the beauty and our first little apartment that we've called home for the past 7 months. (I cannot believe how fast times flies! We've almost been married a year!!) Hopefully we get to see many of you before we take off next Thursday!

We LOVE having family around. My parents came in town a couple weeks ago and despite an extremely busy weekend, we had a great time spending a few nights together. We went to Tepanyaki, one of our favorites, and the chef kept stealing my food off my plate and giving it to Kurt! It was pretty funny, but you probably had to be there. Thanks for an awesome weekend Mom and Dad!

After Thriller we were starving so we decided to stop at The Pie for some late night pizza. It was packed with college students because it's right by the University of Utah but it was fun to go out with Kurt after a long day of work and babysitting.

Friday night we went up to Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake to watch my boss's daughter perform as a "chucky doll" in the show "Thriller" put on by the professional dance complany The Odyssey. I have seen the show a couple times in the past few years but it was extra exciting to watch the 10 year old I nanny for perform. The show was incredible and definitely put us in the mood for Halloween!!

Sorry our blog has not been updated since September! We have been busy workin' during the week and babysitting on the weekends. So here are a few things we have been up to this last month.

During Homecoming week we were driving home from dinner and noticed the Y was lit up. We decided to be spontaneous and use Kurt's mini flash light and hike the Y at 9:45 at night. It was so nice out and a good little work out!

Today is Kurt's 25th Birthday!! I introduced him to the famous strawberry and whipped cream birthday crepes this morning and he loved them!! I had to work for a few hours but I got off early and we got to spend the rest of the day together. We went to Tucanos for dinner (all you can eat is always a good thing for Kurt) and then we shopped and went to see Harry Potter. (Luckily the theater was empty and I was able to lay down and sleep on Kurt's lap the entire time). Sorry Kurt!! It's hard to watch when I have fallen asleep in the first four too! Well it turned out to be a wonderful day and Kurt appreciated all of the birthday text messages, phone calls, and voice mails.

So it was about time we had something up here...Carli's been trying to get me to write something for awhile now and today I had the day off, so why not? Weve been extremely blessed these few months weve been married - by the way married life is awesome..."if you have the means I highly recommend it, it is so choice!" - Ferris Beuhler for those who know.
We got married the 11th of May, 2007 in the Mesa AZ temple (We'd say its the best temple but were kinda biased) on a "warm" Arizona summer day. We spent our honeymoon in and around Cancun, Mexico with its crystal clear water and ancient Mayan ruins. (Pics to follow...)
After returning to reality, ha - we settled back in Provo where we first met and have spent the rest of the summer here working and saving (or trying to save) every penny we make. We have made a few trips to California, work schedules permitting, one in Newport back in July with the Heap family and shortly will be going back to La Canada for my little bro's homecoming (Chicago, South - Spanish speaking) and then on to San Diego for a long weekend of r & r and to see my older brother who is training to be a NAVY Seal at the Coronado Seals base.
We are also anxiously awaiting word from a few different Architecture schools to find out where we will be living and going to school for the next few years starting Jan. 2008 - well keep you updated...
